On August 25, 2026, a professional methodological seminar was held at the Department of History of Ukraine. The central event of the meeting was the presentation of the dissertation research of the postgraduate student of the department, Iryna Mykolaivna Artyukh, on the topic “The Formation and Development of Primary Church Education in the Kherson Diocese (XIX - early XX centuries)”. The topic of the research is relevant, because the history of church education in Kherson region still remains an understudied page of domestic pedagogy and local history. A thorough study of this issue not only fills a gap in the history of the formation of education in the South of Ukraine, but also allows us to better understand the origins and traditions of the region's educational system, trace the role of the church in the formation of primary school and assess its impact on the further development of educational practice in Ukraine.
After the speech of I. M. Artyukh, a lively discussion and debate took place. The speakers were experts O.H. Sereda, L. H. Yanovska and V. I. Vodko emphasized the positive significance of the work for further research into issues of church education in southern Ukraine and made a number of proposals for improving the technical design of the dissertation and strengthening its individual conclusions.
The members of the department actively participated in the conversation, asking the speaker questions about the source base of the research, methodology and chronological boundaries of the work, and sharing their thoughts on the prospects and practical value of the research topic. The discussion took place in a constructive and friendly atmosphere. The dissertation was unanimously approved, the speakers emphasized its relevance, significant potential for further research and the validity of the conclusions.
Following the discussion, the department decided to recommend Iryna Artyukh's dissertation research for defense.
